New Delhi, Aug 8: The United States has emerged as a major supplier in India’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) import basket, marking a significant change in the country’s sourcing pattern over recent months, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said.

India had initially planned to source only a limited share of its LPG requirements from the US. However, that share has increased substantially as international supply conditions and trade flows have changed.
The shift is significant for India as LPG remains an essential household fuel and demand continues to grow with the expansion of clean cooking access.
A wider range of international suppliers can help strengthen the resilience of India’s energy supply chain and provide greater flexibility in responding to changes in global prices, availability and shipping conditions.
